Let's talk about pros and cons of working outside of the home

For the past few weeks, we have chatted about the pros and cons of working inside of the home. We are breaking it down between working from home and outside of the home!

Now, let's chat a bit about working outside of our home!

So... let's jump into some pros!

Social Interaction: Opportunity to connect with colleagues and build relationships. When I worked in an office, I used to always have candy and tea on my desk, so that people could come by and grab a goodie. Sometimes that turned into them sitting and chatting with me. I look back on those days with a smile often, because honestly, that did build a lot of great connections, that I still cherish to this day.
Structured Environment: A clear distinction between work and home life can enhance focus. As someone who has ADHD, I know that having a clear distinction between work and home life can be really helpful for me! Leaving the house gives me the ability to say "ok, it's work time" and then leaving work, I can tell myself "ok, work time is over."

Access to Resources: Easier access to office equipment and resources. This can be huge for people! One of my really good friends says that it can be helpful to have access to a printer, when it's a bit harder to print things when she is at home.
On the flip side, lets chat about some cons!
Commute: Time and cost associated with traveling to and from work. This is huge for me, for sure. In the right mind space, I actually LOVE to be in my car, listening to music or chatting on the phone, going to and from work. But in the wrong mind space, it fuels my anxiety. Also, I used to drive a lot for my job- since I was a community based therapist This was a bit overwhelming at times!
Less Flexibility: More rigid working hours compared to remote work. I definitely feel this- when I am in the office, I tend. to get there very early, and sit in the parking lot so I don't go in too early. I am always worried that I'm being watched when I go and when I go. So flexibility is definitely lower.
Distractions: Office noise and interruptions can hinder concentration. I know sometimes ,when I am focused, it can be really hard to break focus when people come into chat with me, or I hear noises or people talking. So, it can be distracting at times to be in the office!

With these in mind, let's jump into this week's Therapist Mama bear Tip!
