Let's talk about pros and cons of working from home more

These few weeks, we are going to be chatting about pros and cons of working! We are breaking it down between working from home and outside of the home!

We're still chatting a bit more about working from home!

So... let's jump into some pros!

  • Improved Health Habits: More time at home can lead to healthier eating, more physical activity, and better sleep habits. For me, I have a tendency to NOT eat without being reminded. It's an awful habit, I know. But physical activity, I will say I am probably better at moving around more when I am at home. Why? Because one thing about me is that I walk when I am on the phone (more like wander?lol). so when I'm talking on the phone, I am moving.

  • Opportunities for Social Interaction: Virtual communication tools can foster connections with coworkers while allowing for more meaningful interactions without the pressure of in-person meetings. This can be hard for sure! I try to use smiley faces and gifs and reactions when I communicate via text, since sometimes, it can be hard to measure tone!! So I try to be super mindful about my communication! What are some tips you may have?

  • Personalized Workspace: Ability to set up your workspace in a way that suits you best can enhance comfort and productivity. This is a big one for me. I like to have cute things, and pictures, around me. So when I look up, I smile and take a breath.

On the flip side, lets chat about some cons!

  • Increased Feelings of Anxiety: The uncertainty of job security and remote work dynamics can contribute to anxiety. This one is huge for me. Although it's not about job security per say. I feel like, with my background and my education, if I do get let from my job, I will find another job. (It hasn't happened yet!) BUT... for me, if my mind if not kind at that moment, emails can be read and taken in a negative way! Even if the other person writes, "that sounds good" I may attribute a sarcastic tone to it! Which leads to my feelings of anxiety!

  • Sedentary Lifestyle: Working from home may lead to less physical activity, which can impact both physical and mental health. Flipping it from above- this can be so true! When I worked in an office years ago, I had an amazing friend who I would go on walks with. Having a co-worker that you can be active WITH can be helpful for this, and when we work from home, that's a bit harder.

  • Lack of Structure: The absence of a structured office environment can make it harder to establish a productive routine. This can be hard! Not having a certain time to get in and leave, can make it harder to establish a routine. On the other hand, there are some people who are GREAT at that! So this, like all of these, definitely depends on the person!

With these in mind, let's jump into this week's Therapist Mama bear Tip!
