Let's talk about mind-body connection
Let's talk about the mind-body connection.
What does that mean? Basically, how we take care of our body, can impact our mind and that our body and our mind are very much connected with each other!
For example, I walk almost every day- I started out with walking for 5-10 minutes a day, and now I am up to about 1-1.5 hours, depending on the day. It helps to reset me- I am outside, usually by myself (sometimes with the boys), and listening to music or talking to someone. I'm usually just walking around in the complex I live in, but sometimes I will do a quick walk to the store nearby.
What I noticed is these tiny changes have impacted my mind quite a bit.
For example, when I am feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated, a walk can help me reset.
Or if I am annoyed, taking a deep breath and doing a quick progressive muscle relaxation (try looking some up on youtube and follow along!) can be very helpful.
When we are stressed, annoyed, frustrated, mad. etc. we tend to be tense. Our body tends to be tense. So if we can do things to help it loosen up, it can actually help us relax too.
On the flip side, if we (for example) take short quick breaths, we tend to start feeling anxious!
So when you are feeling a certain way, try to tune into how your body is feeling... And try to do something to get the opposite effect!
With that in mind, let's jump into our Therapist Mama bear tip for this week!
