Let’s talk about frustration
Updated: Jun 27, 2023
I was thinking about topics to talk about and one that kept coming up was frustration.
Whether the frustration is about ourselves (why can't I do more than I already do?), others (why don't they understand?) or systems (why do they require so much paperwork?), it can be easy for us to go down the frustration road.
What can be helpful at times is to take a little mental break.
And then look at... what do we have control over? Sometimes, we try to control things that are not in our control, which can increase our frustration.
For example, I had a client who was a mother say to me "I control my kids". The reason that is not... really true is that our kids are their own person! They have their our thoughts and their choices. And yes, their own consequences.
As a parent, we try to help them to build good coping skills, thinking skills, etc. AND they may still choose not to use those skills at times!
Until next time, for now, let's jump into this week's Therapist Mama Bear tip!
