Let's continue to chat about ways to take care of ourselves during the holidays

For the last two weeks, we chatted about ways we can take care of ourselves during the holidays! Let's keep chatting a bit more about this! Since we can never have too many tips!

Avoid Overindulgence
  • Excessive food, alcohol, and other substances can worsen stress and anxiety. Try to balance indulgence with healthy habits, such as staying hydrated, eating nourishing foods, and getting enough sleep. I know it can be hard for many of us- when there is so many things in front of us! Although I don't drink, I can sometimes go overboard with sweets.
  • Moderation is key to feeling good both physically and mentally. Just remember that if we eat too much, it mayyy not feel so great later! Too much of anything can be painful!

Focus on What Matters Most
  • Shift your focus to what’s important to you—whether that’s spending time with family, practicing gratitude, or giving back to others. This is different for everyone- and that is ok! What is important to YOU?
  • Reflect on the aspects of the holidays that bring you happiness, and try to let go of the commercial pressures. I tend to go overboard on gifts (It's one of my love languages), so I also try to think of "why am I getting this? is it because I want to or is it because I feel like I need to get MORE?" Sometimes it's hard- especially when commercials and social media can show us homes and rooms with TONS of gifts! It's totally understandable.

Stay Active
  • Physical activity can help reduce stress and improve mood. Go for walks, engage in holiday-themed activities, or try a new fitness class. I try to go on nightly walks, and take my boys with me! It's a great time to stay connected while moving our bodies. We usually chat about how things are going and have that one on one time.
  • Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters. I would also say... for Aki, it's a big need. The more he moves, he is able to calm down quicker and also stop to think about his choices. It's almost like he needs to get his wiggles out.

With these in mind, let's jump into this week's Therapist Mama Bear Tip!
