Let's continue to chat about being kind to ourself

Dr. Chisato

Last week we chatted a bit about how we can be kind to ourselves.

In. world that can be so unkind, it's so important to be able to give ourselves the kindness that we wish others could give us.. Because, at the end of the day, we are the only ones that will always be with ourselves.

Building A Supportive Environment

Creating a supportive environment can greatly enhance your self-kindness journey. Surround yourself with uplifting individuals who respect and appreciate you. Building connections with people who encourage your mental wellness can be incredibly beneficial. Who is in your inner circle? Who are the ones that are encouraging you to do better- to take care of yourself?

Additionally, consider limiting exposure to negativity in your life, including toxic relationships and negative influences on social media. (Am I thinking of the times that I have doom scrolled on social media? Maybe!) Taking steps to protect your mental space is essential for nurturing self-kindness!

Learning to Say No

Part of being kind to ourselves is recognizing our limits. It's perfectly okay to say no when feeling overwhelmed, whether at work, home, or in social circles. Setting boundaries is crucial for preserving our mental health. This doesn’t mean you're being selfish; it means you’re prioritizing what’s best for you.

I know it can be hard to do this- we sometimes think that we are only worthy if we are doing things for others. But that isn't true- we are worthy, because of who we are as a

By defining your priorities and staying true to them, you can alleviate unnecessary stress. Remember, when you're depleted, you can't support others.

Practice Self-Compassion

Self-compassion is about being warm and understanding toward ourselves during tough times. Instead of ignoring or criticizing our pain, self-compassion allows us to accept that suffering is a shared human experience.

Here are some tips for cultivating self-compassion:

  • Acknowledge Your Emotions: It's okay to feel anxious or upset. Allowing yourself to experience these feelings without judgment is essential for healing.

  • Treat Yourself Like a Friend: When faced with difficult emotions, consider how you would speak to a friend. Extend that same kindness to yourself, offering comfort instead of criticism.

With these in mind, let's jump into this week's Therapist Mama Bear Tip!
