Let’s chat about overcoming negative self talk

Hey there! As a therapist, I often see how negative self-talk can sneak into our lives, amplifying our mistakes and overshadowing our achievements. It’s so easy for people, including myself, to have that little voice inside of ourselves that says “you are not good enough “. It's like having a negative little friend on our shoulder!! So, Let's explore some practical steps to transform that little negative friend to a positive one!

The first step is to notice when negative self-talk occurs. Often, it’s those fleeting thoughts like, “I’m so stupid,” or “I’ll never get it right.” Start catching these thoughts and acknowledging their presence.

we can’t do anything to change it if we don’t catch them!

Next, challenge these thoughts. Ask yourself, “Is this thought actually true?” Many times, it isn’t! often find that it’s exaggerated. Reflect on times you’ve succeeded to counter these negative beliefs. Honestly, most times we are our worst critic!

Transform negative thoughts into positive ones. Instead of “I’m awful at this,” think, “I’m learning and improving.” If you think “I can’t do this” try adding “yet”! This shift fosters growth and self-compassion.

With these in mind, let’s jump into this week’s Therapist Mama Bear tip!
